CVE-2024-47690 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's f2fs filesystem where online repair of corrupted directories during f2fs_lookup() can cause dirty data or metadata to be generated while racing with a readonly remount. This can leave dirty inodes after the filesystem becomes readonly, and since checkpoint() skips flushing dirty inodes in readonly mode, it results in a kernel panic. The issue is addressed by removing the online repair functionality from f2fs_lookup() and delegating the repair work to fsck.f2fs.
