CVE-2024-5300: CWE-212 Improper removal of sensitive information before storage or transferCVE-2024-5300
0

CVE-2024-5300 is an access control bypass and information disclosure vulnerability in the base AppArmor security profile of Canonical snapd. It allows strictly confined snap applications running as root to query systemd-userdbd's Varlink interface and retrieve sensitive user password hashes from /etc/shadow. This occurs because systemd-userdbd does not distinguish between unconfined root on the host and restricted root within the snap sandbox. The vulnerability is mitigated by the fact that systemd-userdbd is not installed by default on standard Ubuntu systems.
