A high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mt76 Wi-Fi driver for the mt7921 device has been resolved. The flaw involves improper handling of PCIe Advanced Error Reporting (AER) errors, which can cause the bus to hang and lead to invalid memory accesses and system crashes. The issue arises when register reads return 0xFFFFFFFF during a bus hang, corrupting DMA queue state and causing kernel paging faults. The fix includes validating DMA indices, rejecting MCU messages when the bus is hung, and installing no-op bus operations upon unrecoverable AER errors. Due to hardware limitations, some affected Wi-Fi devices may not fully recover after certain errors even with the fix applied.
