CVE-2024-40943 addresses a race condition in the Linux kernel's OCFS2 filesystem between hole punching (fallocate) and asynchronous/direct I/O (AIO+DIO). This race can cause on-disk corruption, leading the filesystem to become read-only and resulting in I/O errors. The issue arises when extents are removed concurrently with direct I/O operations, causing extent lookups to fail during I/O completion.
