CVE-2024-49934 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's fs/inode subsystem where the dump_mapping() function may access an invalid dentry.d_name.name, leading to a kernel crash. This occurs during hot-removal of a memory device when the user is accessing hugetlb. The issue arises because dump_mapping() attempts to print a filename using '%pd' or strncpy_from_kernel_nofault(), which can be unreliable and cause a page fault. The vulnerability has been resolved by changing dump_mapping() to retrieve the filename in a safer manner to prevent crashes.
