OpenTelemetry.Resources.Azure versions prior to 1.15.1-beta.1 have a vulnerability where unbounded HTTP response bodies from the Azure VM instance metadata service are read into memory. This can be exploited by an attacker controlling the metadata endpoint or performing a Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) attack to cause excessive memory allocation, potentially leading to application crashes due to OutOfMemoryException. The issue is fixed in version 1.15.1-beta.1 by limiting response size and streaming the response body. Mitigations include disabling the Azure VM resource detector or using network controls to prevent MitM attacks.
