A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel framebuffer console (fbcon) subsystem was identified and resolved. The issue occurs because fb_display[i]->mode pointers are not set to NULL when their associated mode memory is freed during framebuffer unregistration. This leads to dangling pointers and potential use-after-free errors when the system later accesses these stale pointers. The vulnerability was discovered through kernel fuzzing (syzkaller) and involves kernel memory corruption triggered by specific framebuffer device registration and unregistration sequences.
