The issue occurs because the driver sets a device driver data pointer before the probe function completes successfully. If the probe fails, the memory for the device structure is freed, but the stale pointer remains accessible to sub-drivers, leading to invalid memory access. This vulnerability could cause kernel crashes or memory corruption when sub-drivers access the freed memory. The fix delays setting the driver data pointer until all initialization steps succeed.
