CVE-2024-38577 is a high-severity buffer overflow vulnerability in the Linux kernel's rcu-tasks component. It occurs in the function show_rcu_tasks_trace_gp_kthread() when counters passed to sprintf() are extremely large, potentially causing a buffer overflow. Although the required counter values are unrealistically high, the vulnerability is real. The issue was fixed by replacing sprintf() with snprintf() to safely limit buffer size.
