rclone contains a vulnerability in its HTTP CONNECT helper where unbounded HTTP response headers can cause excessive memory consumption. A malicious or compromised proxy can send very large headers (e.g., 2 MiB), causing the rclone process to exhaust memory and terminate. This affects rclone versions prior to 1.75.0 and requires the victim to configure and use the malicious proxy. The impact is denial of service via process-wide memory exhaustion, not unauthorized access. A fix is available to enforce limits on header size and handshake deadlines.
