A cluster of 31 Russian-language Chrome extensions impersonating VPN services for popular blocked platforms has been identified. These extensions share a single malicious codebase and collectively affect approximately 356,000 users. They request extensive proxy permissions and dynamically fetch proxy configurations from remote sources, enabling operators to modify traffic routing without updates. The extensions include a paid VIP tier and some proxy hostnames overlap with known premium VPN services, suggesting possible operational ties.

This threat involves 31 Chrome extensions published from three linked Google accounts that masquerade as VPN services for platforms such as RuTracker, YouTube, Telegram, Instagram, ChatGPT, and Netflix. They share a common malicious codebase and request broad proxy permissions. After installation, they dynamically retrieve proxy server configurations from remote sources like GitHub Pages, Blogspot, Google Docs, and Telegram channels. This design allows the operators to control traffic routing dynamically without needing to update the extensions. The extensions use obfuscated server lists with shared credentials and offer a paid VIP tier. Some proxy hostnames correspond to those used by Browsec VPN premium servers, indicating a potential operational connection.
