Backdoor delivered through software updates 0 A sophisticated backdoor malware was distributed via compromised automatic updates of one torrent client (Download Studio) and three adblockers (NetShield Kit, My AdBlock, and Net AdBlock). It masquerades as a legitimate Malwarebytes installer by creating a fake installation directory with signed files and malicious DLLs. Upon execution, it establishes persistence through a Windows service and communicates with command-and-control servers to receive updates and additional payloads. The primary payload observed was cryptocurrency miners. This attack exploits software update mechanisms and primarily affects users in Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan.
