A use-after-free (UAF) vulnerability was identified and resolved in the ALSA aloop driver in the Linux kernel. The issue arises from racy access in the PCM trigger callback, where state checks and stream stops occur outside the cable lock, potentially causing UAF when streams are triggered frequently. The patch applies locking and null checks to prevent these race conditions. This vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 6.8.0-1055.56 and related builds. The vulnerability has a high severity with a CVSS score of 7.8. A patch is available and included in updated Linux kernel packages distributed by Ubuntu. Users should update and reboot to apply the fix.
