A HTTP Request Smuggling vulnerability exists in the Erlang OTP inets httpd module due to inconsistent handling of duplicate Content-Length headers. The server uses the earliest Content-Length header for body parsing, while common reverse proxies use the last, violating RFC 9112 Section 6.3. This discrepancy can cause front-end/back-end desynchronization, allowing attacker-controlled bytes to be interpreted as the start of a new request. The issue affects multiple versions of Erlang OTP prior to fixed releases. A patch is available to address this vulnerability.

CVE-2026-23941 is a HTTP Request Smuggling vulnerability in the Erlang OTP inets httpd module. The vulnerability arises because the server does not reject or normalize duplicate Content-Length headers. It uses the earliest Content-Length header for parsing the request body, whereas common reverse proxies such as nginx, Apache httpd, and Envoy honor the last Content-Length header. This inconsistency violates RFC 9112 Section 6.3 and can cause front-end/back-end desynchronization, enabling an attacker to inject bytes that are queued as the start of the next HTTP request. The vulnerability affects OTP versions from 17.0 before OTP 28.4.1, OTP 27.3.4.9, and OTP 26.2.5.18, corresponding to inets versions from 5.10 before 9.6.1, 9.3.2.3, and 9.1.0.5 respectively. A patch is available as per the Ubuntu security advisory USN-8827-1.
