A medium severity vulnerability (CVE-2026-53319) in the Linux kernel's block layer subsystem was resolved by removing a WARN_ON_ONCE macro from the wbt_init_enable_default() function. The original code triggered warnings on expected failure paths related to memory allocation and initialization, causing spurious warnings without actual harm. The fix replaces these warnings with conditional checks and diagnostic messages without triggering stack traces. This issue does not impact confidentiality or integrity but can cause availability issues due to spurious warnings. Multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 7.0.0-28.28 and related builds are affected. A patch is available and should be applied via standard system updates.
