Integer Underflow (Wrap or Wraparound) vulnerability in erlang otp erlang/otp (erts modules), erlang otp erts (erts modules) allows Forced Integer… (CVE-2026-54890)CVE-2026-54890 0 An integer underflow vulnerability exists in the Erlang OTP erts modules affecting versions from OTP 27.0 before OTP 29.0.4, OTP 28.5.0.4, and OTP 27.3.4.15. This flaw occurs in the External Term Format (ETF) decoder when handling the BIT_BINARY_EXT tag, allowing a crafted input to cause an unsigned integer underflow. This results in an excessively large memory allocation request that causes the Erlang VM to abort. The crash is at the VM level and cannot be caught or mitigated by Erlang-level exception handling. Applications decoding ETF from untrusted sources using binary_to_term/1,2 or enif_binary_to_term() are vulnerable. The Erlang distribution protocol is also affected but is expected to run on trusted networks. The CVSS score is 7.5 (medium severity).
