A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's USB Type-C alternate modes DisplayPort driver allowed a broken or malicious device to send an incorrect count for a status update VDO, causing the kernel to read uninitialized stack data and potentially leak sensitive information. This issue has been fixed by validating the count before reading the status update. The vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 7.0.0-28.28 and related builds. A patch is available and included in recent Ubuntu kernel updates. No known exploits are reported in the wild.
