As of the latest Red Hat advisory, a fix is under investigation and may be released in the near future. Users should monitor Red Hat advisories for updates. Until a fix is available, avoid configuring untrusted proxy URLs in SSH Git repository settings for Argo CD Image Updater. Applying mitigations that restrict or sanitize proxy URL inputs may reduce risk.
Description
A command injection vulnerability exists in Argo CD Image Updater where a proxy URL configured on an SSH Git repository is unsanitized and passed into a shell-interpreted SSH command. This allows an attacker who can set a malicious proxy value to inject shell metacharacters, execute arbitrary commands, and access credentials within the Image Updater process context.
