Description

A vulnerability in mp4v2 version 2.0.0 allows an attacker with local privileges to execute arbitrary code. The flaw exists in the MP4RtpAtom::ReadHntiType() function due to an unchecked offset subtraction that can cause an extremely large memory allocation. This can be triggered by processing a specially crafted MP4 file containing an undersized RTP atom.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-95121 describes a high-severity vulnerability in mp4v2 2.0.0 where the MP4RtpAtom::ReadHntiType() function in src/atom_rtp.cpp improperly handles an undersized RTP atom. The unchecked offset subtraction leads to a near 2^64 allocation size, enabling an attacker with local access to execute arbitrary code by supplying a malicious MP4 file.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows local attackers to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the mp4v2 process. The vulnerability can cause memory corruption due to an integer underflow leading to an excessively large memory allocation, impacting confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided in the available data. Until a patch is available, avoid processing untrusted MP4 files with mp4v2 2.0.0.
