A fix is available in jaraco/zipp version 3.19.1 and later. Users should upgrade to this version or later to remediate the vulnerability. Since this also affects the zipfile module in CPython due to merged code, users should monitor CPython releases for corresponding patches. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
CVE-2024-5569 is a Denial of Service vulnerability in the jaraco/zipp library affecting all versions prior to 3.19.1. It causes an infinite loop when processing specially crafted zip files via certain Path-related functions. This flaw also impacts the zipfile module in CPython due to shared code. The infinite loop prevents application responsiveness but is not resource exhaustive. The issue is fixed in jaraco/zipp version 3.19.1.
