A patch is available and has been released in multiple Linux kernel versions including 5.4.0-1124.134~18.04.1 and later. Users should update to these fixed kernel versions to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
CVE-2024-26671 is a medium severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's blk-mq subsystem that can cause IO hangs due to a race condition in the sbitmap wakeup mechanism. The issue arises when a reordering of operations leads to a failure in waking up waiters, causing IO operations to stall. This has been fixed by adding an explicit memory barrier in the affected code. Multiple Linux kernel versions prior to the fixed releases are affected.
