A patch is available and has been released in multiple Linux kernel versions including 5.4.0-1128.138~18.04.1 and later. Users and administrators should upgrade to these fixed versions or later to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
CVE-2024-26883 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel affecting the BPF stackmap overflow check on 32-bit architectures. The flaw arises from an overflow in the roundup_pow_of_two() function due to undefined behavior in 32-bit left-shift operations, which can cause incorrect overflow detection. This issue was triggered by syzbot on the DEVMAP_HASH type. The vulnerability has been fixed by adjusting the overflow check to occur before the rounding operation. Multiple Linux kernel versions prior to specific fixed releases are affected.
