AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied by upgrading to one of the fixed Linux kernel versions listed, such as 5.4.0-1130.140~18.04.1 or later. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms the availability of these fixes. Systems running affected kernel versions should be updated promptly to remediate this memory leak vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
A memory leak vulnerability was fixed in the Linux kernel's TIPC protocol implementation. The flaw occurred in the tipc_buf_append function where __skb_linearize() failure did not free the socket buffer (skb), potentially causing a memory leak. This issue has been addressed by adjusting the buffer pointer assignment to ensure skb is freed on error paths. Multiple Linux kernel versions, particularly in the 4.11 and 4.13 series and certain 5.4 builds for Ubuntu 18.04, are affected. The vulnerability has a medium severity rating and a CVSS score of 5.5. Official patches are available and have been released in updated kernel versions.
