Description
CVE-2024-38559 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's SCSI qedf driver where a user-supplied buffer copied from userspace is not guaranteed to be NUL terminated. This can lead to an out-of-bounds read when the kernel function kstrtouint processes the buffer. The issue is fixed by replacing the buffer copy method with one that ensures NUL termination. Multiple Linux kernel versions, including various 4.11.x and 4.13.x builds and several 5.4.x builds for Ubuntu 18.04, are affected. The vulnerability has a medium severity score and does not impact confidentiality or integrity but can cause availability issues. Official patches are available and have been released by Ubuntu.
