What to do

AI-suggested

A fix is available in the Linux kernel that compiles the remove callback unconditionally, preventing the resource leak. Users should update to the fixed kernel version once released. Since this is a kernel driver issue, applying the official kernel patch or upgrading the kernel is the recommended remediation. No additional mitigations are specified.

Description

CVE-2024-38611 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's media i2c et8ek8 driver where the remove function is incorrectly marked with __exit when the driver is built-in. This causes the remove callback to be discarded, leading to resource leaks when the device is unbound. The issue also triggers a modpost warning about section mismatch.
