What to do
AI-suggested
A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to address this memory leak by adding proper skb freeing in be_xmit(). Users should apply the official kernel updates that include this patch to remediate the vulnerability. Since this is a kernel-level fix, updating to the patched kernel version is the recommended mitigation.
Description
CVE-2024-50167 addresses a potential memory leak in the Linux kernel's be2net driver within the be_xmit() function. The issue occurs when be_xmit_enqueue() fails but be_xmit() returns NETDEV_TX_OK without freeing the socket buffer (skb), leading to a memory leak. This vulnerability has been fixed by adding a call to dev_kfree_skb_any() to properly free the skb in failure cases.
