A patch is available and has been applied in multiple fixed Linux kernel versions listed in the advisory. Users should update to one of the fixed kernel versions to resolve this issue. No additional mitigation steps are necessary as this is a code cleanup to remove redundant warnings.
Description
CVE-2024-39509 addresses an issue in the Linux kernel's HID core subsystem where an unnecessary WARN_ON() call in the implement() function could be triggered by Syzkaller during attempts to write a value into a smaller-sized field in an output report. The warning was redundant because the value was already trimmed and a warning message was printed via hid_warn(). This fix removes the superfluous WARN_ON() to prevent unnecessary warnings and potential disruptions during fuzz testing.
