What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to reject the problematic ioctls for ucontrol VMs. Users should update to a Linux kernel version that includes this fix. Memory management for ucontrol VMs should be performed using the recommended ioctls KVM_S390_UCAS_MAP and KVM_S390_UCAS_UNMAP as per the updated documentation.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's KVM subsystem for s390 architecture was addressed by rejecting certain memory region operations on ucontrol virtual machines (VMs). Specifically, the ioctls KVM_SET_USER_MEMORY_REGION and KVM_SET_USER_MEMORY_REGION2 are now rejected for ucontrol VMs to prevent null pointer dereferences. Memory management for these VMs must be done in userspace using KVM_S390_UCAS_MAP and KVM_S390_UCAS_UNMAP ioctls. The fix also includes improved documentation for these operations.
