What to do

AI-suggested

A fix is available that refactors the sanity_check_extent_cache() function to properly cover extent cache access with locking and changes the call order to prevent the race condition. Users should apply the official Linux kernel patches that address this issue. No alternative mitigations are indicated.

Description

CVE-2024-44941 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's f2fs filesystem. The flaw occurs because the function sanity_check_extent_cache() accesses the extent cache without holding the necessary lock, leading to a race condition. This can cause a slab-use-after-free error, potentially allowing an attacker with local privileges to cause memory corruption. The issue has been fixed by refactoring the code to ensure proper locking and calling sanity_check_extent_cache() before modifying the extent cache.
