A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel. Users should update to the fixed versions to resolve the TX FIFO corruption issue. The affected versions are Linux kernel 6.1.76, 6.6.15, and 6.7.3. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official patch.

Description

CVE-2024-44951 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's serial driver for the sc16is7xx device. It causes transmission (Tx) FIFO corruption where data received on one channel can incorrectly be transmitted on another channel due to improper locking and shared buffer handling. This regression was introduced by a change in locking granularity that failed to protect the shared Tx/Rx buffer correctly. The fix involves switching to a safer buffer handling method and separating Rx buffers per channel.
