Description
CVE-2024-46695 is a critical vulnerability in the Linux kernel affecting SELinux and SMACK security modules. It allows a root user on an NFS client with root squashing enabled to bypass permission checks and change security labels on files. The issue arises because the inode_setsecctx hook calls a function that does not perform all necessary permission checks. This flaw has been fixed by replacing the vulnerable function call with one that enforces proper locking and permission verification. The vulnerability has a CVSS score of 9.8, indicating high severity. Multiple Linux kernel versions prior to fixed releases are affected. Official patches are available in several updated kernel versions.
