A patch is available and has been released in multiple fixed Linux kernel versions including 5.15.0-1072.78~20.04.1 and later. Users should update their Linux kernel to one of the fixed versions to remediate this issue. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
CVE-2024-46707 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's KVM subsystem for the ARM64 architecture. It occurs when a guest system without a configured GICv3 attempts to write to ICC_*SGI*_EL1 registers on a host with GICv3 but lacking GICv2 emulation. This causes a NULL pointer dereference due to improper handling of the interrupt emulation, leading to a denial of service (guest crash). The issue has been fixed by making these registers cause an undefined exception (UNDEF) when accessed improperly.
