A patch is available and has been released in multiple Linux kernel versions including 5.4.0-1135.145~18.04.1 and later. Users should update their Linux kernel to one of the fixed versions to remediate this issue. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
CVE-2024-46755 is a high severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mwifiex Wi-Fi driver. The function mwifiex_get_priv_by_id() improperly returns pointers to unused private structures, which lack an associated wiphy, leading to NULL pointer dereferences and kernel crashes. This issue can occur during operations such as restarting wpa_supplicant with specific configurations. The flaw has been fixed by ensuring only used priv pointers with valid bss_mode are returned.
