What to do

A fix is available that addresses the double free by setting mci->pvt_info to NULL after freeing it. Users should apply the official Linux kernel patches that include this fix when they become available.

Description

CVE-2024-56708 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's EDAC/igen6 module that causes a segmentation fault during module unload. The fault occurs due to a double free of memory pointers when unloading the module, specifically because mci->pvt_info is freed twice. The issue is fixed by setting mci->pvt_info to NULL to prevent the double free.
