AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been released in multiple fixed Linux kernel versions including 5.4.0-1142.152~18.04.1 and later. Users should upgrade to one of the fixed kernel versions to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation is required once the system is updated. Refer to the Ubuntu security advisory USN-7379-1 for detailed patch information.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability exists in the ocfs2 filesystem implementation in the Linux kernel when remounting ocfs2 as read-only after mounting it. The issue arises because a dangling pointer (dqi_priv) is accessed after being freed during the remount process. This flaw can lead to memory corruption and potentially allow privilege escalation or system compromise. The vulnerability has been fixed by setting the pointer to null after freeing and adding proper flag checks during quota operations.
