Description
CVE-2025-40079 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel affecting the RISC-V architecture's BPF subsystem. It involves improper sign extension of struct ops return values, which can lead to kernel panics during certain BPF selftests. The issue arises because the bpf_fifo_dequeue program returns a pointer treated incorrectly as a 32-bit value instead of properly sign-extended to 64-bit according to the RISC-V ABI. This flaw has been fixed in Linux kernel versions 6.8.0 and later.
