Technical Analysis

CVE-2025-5182 is a medium-severity authorization bypass vulnerability identified in the Summer Pearl Group Vacation Rental Management Platform versions up to 1.0.1. The vulnerability resides within the Listing Handler component, although the exact code details are unspecified. An attacker can remotely exploit this flaw without requiring user interaction or elevated privileges beyond low-level privileges (PR:L). The vulnerability allows an attacker to bypass authorization controls, potentially granting access to resources or operations normally restricted to authorized users. The CVSS 4.0 vector indicates the attack is network-based (AV:N), requires low attack complexity (AC:L), no privileges are required (PR:L), no user interaction (UI:N), and impacts confidentiality and integrity to a low degree (VC:N, VI:L), with no impact on availability (VA:N). The scope is unchanged (S:N), and there are no security requirements (SI:N, SA:N). The vendor has released version 1.0.2 to address this issue, and upgrading is recommended. No known exploits are currently reported in the wild. Given the platform's role in managing vacation rental listings, unauthorized access could lead to unauthorized viewing, modification, or deletion of rental listings, potentially impacting business operations and customer trust.

Potential Impact

For European organizations using the Summer Pearl Group Vacation Rental Management Platform, this vulnerability poses a risk of unauthorized access to sensitive listing data and management functions. Attackers exploiting this flaw could manipulate rental listings, alter availability, pricing, or booking details, leading to financial losses, reputational damage, and customer dissatisfaction. Since the platform likely handles personal data of renters and property owners, there is also a risk of data confidentiality breaches, which could trigger regulatory compliance issues under GDPR. The remote exploitability and lack of user interaction requirement increase the risk of automated or large-scale attacks. Although the CVSS score is medium, the business impact could be significant for companies relying heavily on this platform for their rental operations, especially during peak booking seasons.

Mitigation Recommendations

1. Immediate upgrade to Summer Pearl Group Vacation Rental Management Platform version 1.0.2 or later to patch the authorization bypass vulnerability. 2. Implement strict network segmentation and firewall rules to restrict access to the management platform only to trusted IP addresses and internal networks. 3. Enforce strong authentication and authorization policies, including multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all administrative users. 4. Conduct thorough access reviews and audit logs regularly to detect any unauthorized access attempts or suspicious activities related to listing management. 5. Employ Web Application Firewalls (WAF) with custom rules to detect and block anomalous requests targeting the Listing Handler component. 6. Educate staff on security best practices and monitor vendor communications for any further updates or advisories. 7. Consider additional compensating controls such as rate limiting and anomaly detection to mitigate automated exploitation attempts.
