Technical Analysis

Kiteworks Email Protection Gateway versions before 9.5.1 contain a code injection vulnerability (CWE-94) due to insufficient validation of uploaded backup content. An authenticated administrator can exploit this flaw to influence how the application loads the backup, potentially executing arbitrary code with the privileges of the underlying service account. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 7.2, reflecting network attack vector, low attack complexity, high privileges required, no user interaction, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Potential Impact

An authenticated administrator can execute arbitrary code on the Email Protection Gateway, potentially compromising the system with the privileges of the service account. This could lead to full system compromise, data loss, or disruption of email protection services.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation details are provided in the available data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict administrator access and avoid uploading untrusted backups.
