CVE-2026-104629: CWE-470 in Grid Protection Alliance openPDC
Description
CVE-2026-104629 is a high-severity vulnerability in Grid Protection Alliance's openPDC and openHistorian products. The vulnerability arises from a component loading mechanism that can instantiate and execute any specified type, including invalid components. Technical Analysis
The vulnerability in openPDC and openHistorian involves a component loading mechanism that constructs and runs any specified type. This behavior allows an attacker with an authenticated user account and the ability to place a file on the host filesystem to execute arbitrary constructor code. The executed code inherits the privileges of the affected service account, potentially leading to full compromise of the service environment. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 8.8, indicating high severity with network attack vector, low attack complexity, and no user interaction required.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation allows an authenticated attacker with file placement capability on the host to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the affected service account. This can lead to complete compromise of the affected service, including confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a patch is available, restrict authenticated user access and file placement permissions on the host filesystem to trusted users only.
