CVE-2026-104964: CWE-639: Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key in makeplane plane
Description
Plane is an open-source project management tool. Prior to 1.4.0, Plane's project update endpoint authorizes the caller against the workspace slug in the request URL but loads the target project globally by UUID without binding it to that workspace. An administrator of one workspace can modify a project in another workspace when the victim project UUID is known. This violates tenant isolation and permits unauthorized cross-workspace changes to project metadata and configuration. This issue is fixed in 1.4.0.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-104964 describes an authorization bypass vulnerability in Plane before version 1.4.0. The project update endpoint authorizes users based on the workspace slug in the URL but loads the target project globally by UUID without verifying that the project belongs to the authorized workspace. This flaw allows an administrator in one workspace to modify projects in other workspaces if they know the project UUID, breaking tenant isolation and enabling unauthorized cross-workspace changes to project metadata and configuration. The vulnerability is classified under CWE-639 (Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key) and has a CVSS 3.1 score of 6.8, indicating medium severity. The issue is resolved in Plane version 1.4.0.
Potential Impact
The vulnerability allows an administrator in one workspace to bypass tenant isolation and modify projects in other workspaces without proper authorization, potentially leading to unauthorized changes in project metadata and configuration. There is no impact on confidentiality or availability reported, but integrity is affected.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade Plane to version 1.4.0 or later, where this authorization bypass vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is required as the issue is resolved in the official fix.
