Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: TP-Link Systems Inc.
Product: Tapo C325WB v2

Description

TP-Link Tapo C325WB v2 cameras use a time-seeded pseudo-random number generator to create the pre-shared key for their local media streaming service. This method results in predictable keys that an unauthenticated attacker on the adjacent network can recover. Exploiting this vulnerability allows unauthorized access to live video and audio streams, compromising their confidentiality and integrity.

Technical Analysis

The TP-Link Tapo C325WB v2 device generates the pre-shared key for its local media streaming service using a time-seeded pseudo-random number generator, which is insufficiently random. This weakness (CWE-330) enables an unauthenticated attacker on the adjacent network to predict and recover the key, thereby authenticating to the media streaming service without valid credentials. Successful exploitation compromises the confidentiality and integrity of live camera media streams.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker on the adjacent network can recover the predictable pre-shared key and gain unauthorized access to live video and audio streams from the Tapo C325WB v2 camera. This compromises the confidentiality and integrity of the camera's media streams, potentially allowing surveillance and unauthorized monitoring.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix information is currently available. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is provided, limit network exposure of the device to trusted networks only and monitor for unauthorized access attempts.
