CVE-2026-107216: CWE-674: Uncontrolled Recursion in qax-os excelize
Description
Excelize is a Go language library for reading and writing Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. From 2.8.1 to 2.11.0, ANCHORARRAY recursively calls the exported CalcCellValue function, creating a fresh calculation context at each cycle and bypassing in-flight and iteration controls. ANCHORARRAY calls CalcCellValue instead of cellResolver, so each recursive hop receives a new calcContext and loses cycle state. When mutually referencing dynamic-array formulas are evaluated directly or through formula-evaluating APIs, each recursion hop resets the cycle budget and prevents completion-based caches from breaking the cycle, allowing an attacker to cause a fatal Go stack overflow and abort the process. No fixed version is available as of this review.

Technical Analysis
Excelize versions 2.8.1 to 2.11.0 contain an uncontrolled recursion vulnerability (CWE-674) in the ANCHORARRAY function. ANCHORARRAY recursively invokes the exported CalcCellValue function, creating a new calculation context on each call and bypassing in-flight and iteration cycle controls. Because CalcCellValue is called instead of cellResolver, each recursion resets the cycle budget and loses cycle state, preventing completion-based caches from breaking recursion cycles. This allows attackers to trigger a fatal Go stack overflow by crafting mutually referencing dynamic-array formulas, causing the process to abort. No fixed version is available as of the latest review.
Potential Impact
An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by supplying crafted dynamic-array formulas that mutually reference each other, causing uncontrolled recursion and a fatal stack overflow in the Go runtime. This results in denial of service by aborting the process using the Excelize library. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity, but availability is severely affected.
Mitigation Recommendations
No official fix or patch is currently available for this vulnerability. Users should avoid processing untrusted or malicious Excel files containing dynamic-array formulas that could trigger this recursion issue. Monitor vendor advisories for updates and patches addressing this vulnerability.
