AI-suggested

Users should monitor the vendor advisories for updates. In the meantime, disabling public submissions on BuddyForms forms or using a non-widgetized theme may reduce exposure. Applying strict input validation and output escaping via custom code or security plugins could mitigate risk. Since this is not a cloud service, remediation depends on site administrators applying updates once available.

Description

The BuddyForms WordPress plugin up to version 2.10.5 is vulnerable to stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) via the 'bf_post_type' and 'buddyforms_form_content' parameters. This vulnerability arises from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping, allowing unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts that execute when users view the affected pages. Exploitation requires a public BuddyForms form with submissions enabled and an active theme with a widgetized sidebar to place a malicious Custom HTML widget.
