Until a fix is available, administrators should consider disabling "Anyone can register" in WordPress settings and removing or restricting public BuddyForms forms to prevent exploitation. Monitor vendor channels for updates and apply official patches promptly once released.
Description
The BuddyForms WordPress plugin up to version 2.10.5 contains a critical privilege escalation vulnerability. An unauthenticated attacker can exploit a form-type confusion flaw via the bf_post_type parameter to create a rogue form configuration that allows them to register a new WordPress user with administrator privileges. This attack requires the site to have "Anyone can register" enabled and at least one public BuddyForms form. The vulnerability arises from improper authorization checks in the frontend submission handler and missing capability checks in the post-save listener, enabling full site takeover.
