CVE-2026-108159: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting') in iflytek astron-rpa
Description
CVE-2026-108159 is a high-severity cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in iflytek astron-rpa desktop client versions up to 1.1.6. It occurs in the smart-component chat feature where unsanitized output from a large language model (LLM) is rendered via v-html, allowing remote attackers to execute OS commands. The attack involves embedding prompt-injection content that causes the model to emit HTML event handlers invoking an unrestricted IPC handler with shell metacharacters, leading to command execution as the desktop user.

Technical Analysis
AstronRPA versions up to 1.1.6 contain a cross-site scripting vulnerability in the desktop client's smart-component chat. The vulnerability arises because unsanitized LLM output is rendered using v-html, enabling attackers to inject prompt content that results in HTML event handlers executing OS commands via an open-path IPC handler. This allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands with the privileges of the desktop user.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands on the affected system with the privileges of the desktop user. This can lead to system compromise, data theft, or further attacks depending on the user's permissions. The vulnerability requires user interaction and has a high attack complexity and partial user interaction, as indicated by the CVSS vector.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, avoid exposing the vulnerable chat component to untrusted inputs and consider restricting usage or applying input sanitization workarounds if possible.
