Vendor/Project: OW2
Product: ASM

Description

CVE-2026-110259 is a vulnerability in OW2 ASM versions 3.0 up to but not including 9.11. It involves uncontrolled recursion in the ClassWriter.replaceAsmInstructions() method, which can be triggered by crafted class files containing large methods with many long forward jumps. This causes unbounded recursion in toByteArray(), leading to a StackOverflowError and denial of service.

Technical Analysis

OW2 ASM versions >=3.0 and <9.11 contain an uncontrolled recursion vulnerability in the ClassWriter.replaceAsmInstructions() function. Attackers can craft class files with large methods that have many long forward jumps, triggering unbounded recursion during the toByteArray() transformation process. This results in a StackOverflowError, causing a denial of service condition.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation causes a denial of service by crashing the process performing the class file transformation due to a StackOverflowError. There is no indication of privilege escalation, code execution, or data disclosure.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in OW2 ASM version 9.11 or later. Users should upgrade to version 9.11 or newer to remediate this vulnerability. Patch status is confirmed by the affectedVersions range indicating fixed in 9.11.
