Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: OW2
Product: ASM

Description

CVE-2026-110260 is a vulnerability in OW2 ASM versions 3.0 up to but not including 9.11. It involves a quadratic memory allocation issue in the MethodWriter class when using COMPUTE_MAXS or COMPUTE_FRAMES. An attacker can craft a class file with many overlapping exception handlers, causing excessive memory allocation and potentially crashing the JVM with an OutOfMemoryError.

Technical Analysis

OW2 ASM versions >=3.0 and <9.11 contain a vulnerability in the MethodWriter.computeMaxStackAndLocal() and computeAllFrames() methods. When using the COMPUTE_MAXS or COMPUTE_FRAMES options, these methods allocate memory with quadratic complexity if presented with a class file containing thousands of overlapping exception handlers. This can lead to excessive Edge allocations and cause the JVM to run out of memory and crash.

Potential Impact

An attacker can cause a denial of service by supplying a specially crafted class file that triggers excessive memory allocation in the ASM library, resulting in an OutOfMemoryError and JVM crash. This impacts availability but does not indicate code execution or privilege escalation.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch link is provided in the available data. Until a patch is available, avoid processing untrusted class files with ASM using COMPUTE_MAXS or COMPUTE_FRAMES.
