Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in aiohttp, an asynchronous HTTP client/server framework for Python, involves the improper enforcement of the Secure attribute on shared cookies before version 3.14.4. Specifically, cookies marked as Secure can be transmitted over unencrypted HTTP connections, potentially exposing sensitive cookie data. This issue corresponds to CWE-311 (Missing Encryption of Sensitive Data) and CWE-1004. The problem is fixed in aiohttp version 3.14.4.

Potential Impact

An attacker could cause a shared cookie marked Secure to be sent over an unencrypted connection, increasing the risk of cookie interception and potential session hijacking or data leakage. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 6.3, indicating a medium severity impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade aiohttp to version 3.14.4 or later, where the Secure attribute enforcement on shared cookies is properly implemented.
