Published: 10/15/2026 (10/15/2026, 18:57:40 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: libgme
Product: game-music-emu

Description

Game Music Emu (libgme) versions up to 0.6.5 contain a heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the AY loader's get_data function. This issue is caused by an integer underflow during the track-table bounds check. An attacker can craft a ZXAYEMUL file with an oversized track table to trigger reading beyond the file buffer, potentially causing crashes in applications using libgme.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-111152 is a heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability in libgme (Game Music Emu) through version 0.6.5. The flaw exists in the AY loader's get_data function due to an integer underflow in the track-table bounds check. By supplying a specially crafted ZXAYEMUL file with an oversized track table, an attacker can cause the library to read memory beyond the intended buffer when functions like gme_track_info or gme_start_track are called, leading to application crashes.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows an attacker to cause a heap out-of-bounds read, which can lead to application crashes in software using libgme. There is no indication of code execution or data corruption beyond the crash. The CVSS 4.0 score is 6.8 (medium severity), reflecting the potential for denial of service via crashing.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid processing untrusted ZXAYEMUL files with libgme-based applications to mitigate risk.
