CVE-2026-113604: Memory Allocation with Excessive Size Value in NationalSecurityAgency ghidra
Description
Ghidra 10.2 through 12.1.4 contains a denial of service vulnerability in the ELF loader's ElfHeader class that allocates arrays sized by unvalidated extended section and program header counts. Attackers can supply a crafted 128-byte ELF file that triggers an OutOfMemoryError during load-spec discovery at import or in headless analysis pipelines.

Technical Analysis
The National Security Agency's Ghidra software versions 10.2 through 12.1.4 contain a denial of service vulnerability in the ELF loader component, specifically in the ElfHeader class. This vulnerability is due to the allocation of arrays sized by unvalidated extended section and program header counts from ELF files. An attacker can exploit this by supplying a crafted 128-byte ELF file that causes the software to allocate excessive memory, resulting in an OutOfMemoryError during load-spec discovery. This affects both interactive imports and automated headless analysis pipelines.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation causes a denial of service by triggering an OutOfMemoryError, which disrupts the loading or analysis of ELF files in Ghidra. There is no indication of privilege escalation, code execution, or data disclosure. The impact is limited to service disruption.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, users should avoid processing untrusted or suspicious ELF files in affected Ghidra versions to mitigate risk.
